Fears About Technology are Back

Do you own Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa or Google’s Assistant?

Tech

Surprise! These devices can operate independently while you ignore them.

Researchers in China and the United States have begun demonstrating that they can send hidden commands that are undetectable to the human ear to Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa and Google’s Assistant.

These technology experts have been able to secretly activate the artificial intelligence systems on smartphones and smart speakers, making them dial phone numbers or open websites. In the wrong hands, the technology could be used to unlock doors, wire money or buy stuff online—simply with music playing over the radio.

Commands coded in the white noise played over loudspeakers and through YouTube videos get smart devices to turn on airplane mode or open a website.

The latest research paper stated that they could embed commands directly into recordings of music or spoken text. So, while a human listener hears someone talking or an orchestra playing, Amazon’s Echo speaker might hear an instruction to add something to your shopping list.

Definition of Lemon: If you have tried several times to get your RV repaired under warranty with no permanent results, you may have a qualified “lemon” under the law.

RVTravel.com’s website contains a two-part article on the lemon law and how to deal with it.

Discussions among RVers about the quality of RV construction generally lead to the same conclusion: Manufacturers are sending many substandard units out their doors these days.

Why? One possibility is that production is being rushed at an unprecedented rate. Over the past five years, RV production has almost doubled (285,749 in 2012 vs. 504,599 in 2017, per the RV Industry Association).

The Federal Law does not require any product to have a warranty; its purpose is to ensure that if a business/manufacturer warranties its product, the warranty must comply with this law.”

You may need to hire a lawyer to get out from under this lemon. The lemon article gives you some advice on where to find one.

Folks, you need to read this article about registering your vehicle in Montana to save sales tax. Since the RV industry is making headlines with huge quarterly revenues, all the offshoots of this industry are on alert for their share.

California Motor Vehicles has state troopers keep their eyes open for Montana-plated rigs either being towed, or towing, a vehicle with a different state’s plates. Other states have “report a tax evader” hotlines set up for just such scenarios. And while it may be legal in some states now, the visions of new tax-streams becoming available can quickly turn into realities on the books.
