Justice Prevails

RV Dealers Fined by New York Attorney General

Finally, some justice at last. Russ and Tina Maris, RV Travel.com, reported a story of success for RV owners in New York. Apparently, the Attorney General Letitia James nailed two big RV dealers, RV One Superstores and RV Retailer East for engaging in deceptive practices. They also failed to make – wait for it – timely repairs to consumer’s vehicles. Consumers who were harmed by the dealerships’ dishonest business practices are to be compensated $50,000.

“RVs are costly investments, which is why it’s so important that consumers get accurate information and timely repairs when they make these purchases. Because of our action, repairs have already been completed and consumers will be compensated for delays. New Yorkers can trust that my office will always fight to protect their wallets and help them get what they have paid for.”

The complaints started way back in 2015, so no instant justice here. The consumers also indicated that the salespeople lied (correction, misled them) during the sales process and, of course, the warranty coverage.

Additionally, New York’s agreement require both the current and former owners to make significant changes to their business practices, including:

  • Prohibiting the businesses from misrepresenting any material fact about the condition of an RV or the terms of any warranty or service contract,
  • Responding to phone calls and inquiries from consumers who purchased RVs within three business days,
  • Providing timely service appointments to consumers,
  • Keeping consumers apprised of the status of their RV repairs, and
  • Providing consumers with a copy of the warranty, or a written document describing its terms before contracting with them.

Now, it is up to RV owners in New York to ensure these dealers keep their word.   Please continue filing those complaints and hold the dealerships “feet to the fire.” Read all the delightful details here.

This is another feather in the cap for New York Attorney General Letitia James. She is also stirring up the political crowd in Washington with her desire for justice. It is nice to see that the little guy still counts.

New RV Park Brand in Town

My favorite RV park in San Diego, California used to be Chula Vista RV Resort, right on the bay. I am sure a lot of you knew this bit of paradise. Zip through the side gate right into the beautiful park that fronts the bay. Nightly cost, high for the time, at around $40. I miss the old park already. Right on the water, gone, gone, gone!

Cottages

Now the way of most parks close to the water, right into a franchisor group like Sun Outdoors. This group, however, seems to have a new idea about RV park layouts. In ideal locations like the harbor at Chula Vista, they chose to combine the RV and Cottage idea. Not like most RV parks that use modest park model trailers, these are much bigger than most hotel rooms in the area for about the same price.

Here you can park your RV close to your friend’s cottage for about half the price. Choose from a back-in RV site starting at $165 a night to a $214 deluxe site, fire pit, table and chairs for all. The 2-story cottages start at $358 nightly and have a loft with a view of the water (way out there).

Sun Outdoors

So much for the economy of the RV lifestyle, on to the new upscale version. There’s hope that they build enough of these to bring the pricing down. We can dream!
