Special Holiday Places and Gifts

If you or someone you care about is considering the RV lifestyle, but not sure if they are that adventurous, give them Chuck Woodbury’s latest book, The ABCs of RVing: Everything You Wanted to Know About RVing but Were Afraid to Ask. This short read covers all the questions you want to ask about the lifestyle (and some you didn’t know to ask). Chuck is the editor of the popular RVTravel.com website and newsletter, so he knows all the questions and answers. Available at Amazon in eBook and Print format.

If you decided to travel over the holidays instead of “stay in place,” here is a gift you can give yourself to make the holidays safe this year no matter what you decide to do. Amazon now has several different face-covering shield styles attached to a glasses-like frame fitting over the ears. They stand away from the face and cover from upper forehead to well below the chin, curving around the face.

Made of clear plastic that does not fog up and your face is clearly visible, perfect! This face shield is very comfortable, easy to wear for long periods of time. In fact, you forget you are wearing it until you try to touch your face. The cost is around $14 for 5 of these masks. They ship flat for storage, just clip them to the frames when in use. Once I discovered this type of mask, I wear it everywhere, during dance classes, meeting friends, and taking long walks around the park where joining groups for short conversations are the norm. Look around while on Amazon to see several other face shield designs.

If you are into holiday lights, here are a few RV resorts that fill that need:

* Lake Buena Vista, Florida.  Give yourself a great gift over the holidays, make an RV reservation at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. In traditional Disney fashion, they immerse you in the holidays. My favorite is a tour of the holiday lights in a horse-drawn sleigh.

* Charleston, South Carolina. James Island County Park Campground & Cottages features miles of trails, a climbing wall, freshwater lakes, a playground, and an off-leash dog park. To celebrate the holidays, the city holds its annual Lights Festival right there in the park. Nearby the Holiday Festival of Lights offers train rides and visits with Santa if you are bringing your little ones.

Maybe fishing and relaxing are more your style:

* Punta Gorda, Florida. If taking it easy is your style, Water’s Edge Resort has a 20-acre fishing lake and dock plus it’s close to shopping, dining, several beaches and a harbor.

* Rio Hondo, Texas. Another fishing, fun and relaxation spot is the River Ranch Resort. Not only a prime birder spot but close to golf courses too. It sits on the banks of the Arroyo Colorado River and offers lighted fishing piers and boat slips.
